BACKGROUND
The Colour Blind Project is an education motion graphic piece. After helping create the CBL labels, I was inspired by the complexity of accessibility in design, namely for colour-blind people.
The intention of my animation was to educate viewers on the awareness of colour-blindness and the importance of accessibility in design. I wanted to create this through different types of motion design graphics of statistics, using examples of everyday life for a person with colour-blindness, and a final message on how to enhance accessibility in design.
The main audience I envisioned for this video are designers, to educate them on the importance of accessibility in design. Additionally, I believed this video could be for anyone who wishes to learn new things about people with colour-blindness that others don't normally think about, like having difficulties picking clothes or buying fruit. I wanted people to finish the video with a new perspective on what colour blind people go through.
While I myself am not colour-blind, a fellow peer of mine is. Learning about his challenges with distinguishing colours was eye opening to me, and I believe it should really be a more discussed and known about topic.
The main message I wanted to deliver is simply understanding colour-blindness, and having a recognition for it in everyday life. I feel as though some people disregard the severity it can hold in someone's life, or brush it off as not that big of a deal, and through my video I wanted to elaborate on the little things that would affects anyone's life and how they can be better accommodated for in the world of design.
